Located at the end of Pine Island in Lee County, Florida, Useppa is an exclusive island, available only by helicopter or boat.
Useppa boasts a lifestyle very different from other parts of Florida, and even other private Gulf Coast islands. Golf carts are the main source of transportation on the island and residents and visitors are permanently on “island time” — so be prepared to slow down and go with the the flow.
The most fascinating part about Useppa Island is the rich history dating back 10,000 years when the Calusa Indians inhabited the island becoming the most advanced native society on the continent.
Then in the 1700s, the island attracted pirate Jose Gaspar who fell in love with Princess Joseffa de Mayorga of Spain. Because of his unrequited love, he kidnapped the princess and brought her to Useppa to hold her captive.
Whether you are looking to have a classy meal overlooking the water or would prefer a relaxed cocktail with friends and family, you have everything you could possibly need right within walking (or golf-carting) distance from your home.
